Similarity in Tailing Discharge Depositing Model

The characteristics of tailing discharge flow are: large variation in concentra- tion, possible moyement of whole depositing bed, either laminar or turbulent, axisymmetrical, small depth, low flow rate and steep slope. Therefore in the model test of the tailing discharge deposit we use prototype sand; and by neglecting the similarity of depth-lettgth (or bed elevation ) ratio, we could use a small size model yet equal depth and equal unit discharge as prototype, thus satisfying the requirements of similarity. Our study shows that the approximation is fairly good for the tailing discharge depositing model.
