MIXOTROPHIC BATCH AND FED-BATCH CULTURE OF SPIRULINA PLATENSIS

The mixotrophic batch and fed batch cultures of Spirulina platensis in a 4 litre fermentor were investigated. In fed batch culture, the highest cell dry weight concentration of 10.2 g/L was achieved. The highest biomass concentration in mixotrophic fed batch culture was respectively 3.8 times as much as in mixotrophic batch culture and 7.2 times as much as in photoautotrophic batch culture with the same reactor. The yield of cell in mixotrophic fed batch culture was 2.8 times as much as in mixotrophic batch culture and 4.9 times as much as in photoautotrophic batch culture.
