The Six Developments of Chinese Online News

The Internet came to China as media about ten years ago. With the massive construction of Chinese news websites, the concepts and operations of online journalism in China are in great progress. When the first news websites were set up, the online news was updated on a regular basis. Later, on line news was refreshed in time. Real-time reporting was introduced later for breaking events. Now, an all-time work module is set up, which means news is updated all around the clock. Compared with the single layer and linear organization method of news in traditional media, all the news on a website is linked by a network of many layers, which gives more connections between all kinds of news. So a piece of online news is used repeatedly since it can be hyper-linked with other news. And the news can be delivered to the audience in many ways besides the web pages, for example, by e-mail, PDF and SMS. Multi-media reports are also developed by the news websites. At the beginning, the editors of news websites simply copied the news from traditional media; later they tried to do more editing to meet the needs of the web users. For the time being, editors are paying more and more attention to the organizing of news. Sometimes they try to expound the news in certain ways to help the audience better understand the news events. The audiences have played a more and more important role in online news communication. Thus the interaction between new websites and audiences is widened and deepened.
