大连城市公示语英译中存在的问题及其对策

为满足对外开放和交流的需要,大连市内许多公示语采用汉英两种语言。调查发现,这些公示语英译中存在大量遗漏搭配词汇、用词不当、中式英语、译名不统一、不符合英语表达习惯等问题。研究表明,标准缺失、术语不统一、文化差异、翻译市场管理体系不健全等是产生这些问题的主要原因。为有效解决这些问题,政府有关部门应整顿目前的混乱局面,成立专门机构和专家委员会,出台相关法规,规范公示语翻译,加强对公示语标牌生产流程的监管。

Problems and suggested solutions to English translation of public signs in Dalian City

To meet the needs of opening up and increasing the exchange with other countries,many public signs of Dalian City are in both Chinese and English.Investigation reveals many errors in the English translation of such public signs such as word missing in a collocation,improper wording,Chinglish,non-standardization for the place name,etc.Study shows that they mainly result from the lack of established standards,no unified translation of terms,cultural differences,imperfected management system in translation field and so on.To solve these problems,our government should rectify the current situation,establish a specialized agency and expert committee,set up the regulation of the translation of them so as to improve their production and to strengthen the supervision.
