| Abstract: | In this paper etherification of the terminal hydroxy groups of polyethylene glycol monoalkyl ethers was studied and a convenient method for the preparation of polyethylene glycol dialkyl ethers was afforded. Nine methyl, butyl and benzyl derivatives were obtained by using the Willinson synthetic method. The effect of reaction parameters on protective ratio was examined by using the optimum seeking method. The protective efficiency was evaluated by comparing the variation of hydroxy value. The best reaction conditions was found by experiment. It was also found that the protective ratio of methylation was higher than that of butylation while the protective ratio of benzylation was the lowest. The protective ratio of AEO_9 was equivalant to OP_8 and the protective ratio of AEO_3 was much worse. |
