Abstract:By means of optical microphotography, scanning electron microscope and wavelength dispersive analysis of X-ray (WDAX), both the micromorphology characteristics and the carbon content of the pulverized coal particles, which were sampled from the boiler of a 50MW power unit burning anthracitic coal with very low volatile matter content, was examined and analyzed. It is found that the poor burning behavior of the anthracitic coal with very low volatile matter content results from the difference of the form and texture of burning particles, which is caused by the reason and geologic condition of the coal formation. The combustion efficiency can be improved by increasing particle residence time in high temperature zone of the furnace and/or reducing particle size of the pulverized coal.
