| Abstract: | Cracking failure of the main shaft of a crude oil pump was analyzed by means of optical metalloscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that it is a typical torsion shear fracture resulting from the combined effect of surface de-carbonation and stress concentration at shaft neck. |
