Comparison and Application of Elastic-Plastic Response Spectra

Constant-ductility strength demand spectrum is often applied to the construction of structural demand curve. The difference in the conception and calculation of constant-ductility strength demand spectrum and constant-strength ductility demand spectrum was analyzed. In the improved capacity spectrum method, the ductility demands were derived with the statistical results of constant-ductility strength spectrum, which would inevitalby cause errors. A constant-strength ductility demand spectrum was proposed to calculate the ductility factor. Analytical results indicated that the roof displacement demands of the structure under earthquake excitation, which is the basis for the evaluation of structural seismic performance, could be estimated simply and effectively with the constant -strength ductility demand spectrum.
