Abstract:The previous research on the dissipation of atmospheric kinetic energy in the boundary layer was mainly restricted in the horizontally homogeneous geostrophic wind field.In this paper,we study the dissipation of kinetic energy in the conditions of nonstationay and inhomogeneous geostrophic wind field,or in different pressure systems, by using semi-geostrophic atmospheric bonndary layer model.As a result,the corre- sponding theoretical formulas are derived.We have drawn some conclusions,for example, the dissipation in the positive geostrophic vorticity systems such as cyclone and trough is lower than that in the negative vorticlty systems such as anticyclone and ridge when the geostrophic wind speeds are the same.The derived formulas may be applied to large-scale models to calculate the kinetic energy dissipation.
