Abstract:In this paper, on the basis of conventional test results, an elastic brittle plastic strain softening mode is used to simulate the stress strain softening curve, with focus put on the dilatation behaviour in the plastic area. By using the field function with the form of twin shear stress unified strength theory, closed form formulas of stress, strain, displacement and final expansion pressure are derived for cylindrical cavity expansion. The effect of different yield function form, strain softening, shear dilatation is analyzed on stress and displacement fields and the development of plastic zone using the derived formulas.
