摘    要:图像是多媒体应用中的重要媒体 ,而传输频带和存储容量的限制 ,使得图像压缩技术成为多媒体系统的关键技术之一。小波是一个新兴的数学分支 ,它与传统的正交变换相比有很大的优越性 ,小波编码也是近年来编码研究的热点之一。在分析了已被 MPEG ( moving picture experts group)组织采纳的嵌入式零树小波 ( EZW )编码算法的基础上 ,针对它在效率上的不足 ,将零树和量化技术相结合 ,并给出了码率控制方案 ,实现了一种新的零树小波图像编码器。在质量下降不大的条件下 ,本算法速度有明显改善

Abstract:Images are important in multimedia applications, but restrictions on bandwidth and storage capacity make image compression techniques a key part of multimedia systems. Wavelets are a new mathematical tool for image compression that have many advantages compared with other orthogonal transforms. Wavelet coding has, therefore, become a focus of coding research. This paper describes the embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) coding algorithm adopted by MPEG (moving picture experts group), and some coding efficiency defects in EZW. The zerotree algorithm is then combined with quantization and a bit rate control algorithm to implement a new zerotree wavelet image coder. This coder runs faster than EZW with little decrease in quality.
