陈星聚与台北府城的修筑

由于台湾岛与大陆相隔窎远,清初政府并不主张在台湾筑城。然而,从19世纪中期开始,面对海防危机不断加剧的情势,尤其是"罗妹号事件"和"牡丹社事件"的接连发生使台湾直接暴露在列强的炮火之下,清政府开始转变政策,在台湾推行筑城运动以保卫海疆。作为实质上首位履职的台北知府陈星聚以其卓越的个人品质成功地完成了历史赋予他的使命,带领台湾人民筑起了台北府城,遏制了列强的入侵,捍卫了祖国的领土。

STUDY ON THE ROLE OF CHEN XING -JU IN THE FORTIFICATION OF TAIPEI CITY

Because of the distance between Taiwan and China mainland, the Qing Dynasty wouldn＇t advocate fortification in Taiwan. However, since the mid- nineteenth century, the invasion of the eastern and western powers into China＇ s coastal area was becoming increasingly grim, which resulted the Qing Dynasty altered its fortification policy in Taiwan. As the first magistrate of Taipei prefecture who set foot on the soils of Taipei, CHEN Xing - ju with eminent quality led the Taiwan＇ s people to fulfill the fortification, and to re- sist the powers＇ invasion for defending China＇ s territory.
