History,Nostalgia of Shanghai:An Analysis of the Writing of Shanghai in A Song of Everlasting Sorrow by Wang Anyi

A Song of Everlasting Sorrow is regarded as the masterpiece of Wang Anyi,which thoroughly depicts the glitz and elegant Shanghai. Wang Anyi uses her unique historical writing as a skeleton to prop up the whole book. This paper mainly includes three parts: First,the author discusses the daily life of Shanghai,which is regarded as the main structure of the city's history presented in an emotional and diachronic way; Second,the author describes the life of Wang Qiyao by " non- historical" writing,which is similar to the history of Shanghai and therefore,it is of profound historical significance; Third,the author portrays the alleys in Shanghai as symbolic architecture so as to show the historical vicissitudes through secular life.
