| Abstract: | Based on the elastic solutions of single pile settlement, in this paper the variation of settlement-influence factors both in homogeneous soil and in nonhomogeneous soil with k,L/D and E_b/E_s is studied, and settlement-influence factor of the single pile in homogeneous soil M_(Rt) is presented as a comprehensive index to determine the components of pile settlement and the influence due to bearing stratum. This index can be used to explain the main difference between flexible piles and stiff piles in the behaviour of settlement and bearing capacity. The results of the comparison between predicted and observed values of M_(Rt) under working loads for both the mixing pile and the concrete pile are quite satisfactory. |
