| Abstract: | A mechanistic model with semi-analytical finite element is developed for analysing the deflections and stresses in asphalt overlay on existing concrete pavements. It is indicated that the 3-D semi-analytical solution shows the same deflection and stress paterns as those from the plane strain solution,but it has much lower magnitttdes, that means the 2-D solution highly overestimates the loading stresses in asphalt overlays. The impacts of thickness and stifflless of overlay, and the bonding condition between layers on loading, stresseg have also been discussed in this paper. |
