A Critical Review on the Correlation Properties of Coding DNA Sequences

The base correlation in nucleic acid is discussed by use of information Redundancy with Lag (IRL) method and DNA walk method. By use of IRL method the correlation length is defined. It is demonstrated that for a large part of coding sequences the correlation lengths are smaller than 3 but for others the correlation is of long-range nature. The result has been obtained by us in 1989 and published in international journals in 1990-1991. But it seems to be overlooked by some authors in later works. A critical review of recent physical literatures on related problems is presented. The patchiness effect of DNA and the correlation modes of nucleotides are discussed briefly.
