稀土石榴石晶体磁光效应微观机制研究

摘    要:本文用量子理论计算了RE:YIG(RE=Ce,Pr)晶体薄膜中RE离子经晶场和交换作用劈裂后的能级和波函数及4f~n→4f~(n-1)5d~1电偶极跃迁几率,进而计算了该晶体的Faraday旋转,计算结果与实验完全符合.结果表明,RE:YIG晶体的磁光效应主要来自RE离子4f~n→4f~(n-1)5d~1的电偶极跃迁;晶场与交换作用起着重要作用.

Abstract:The calculation of the Faraday rotation induced by the rare earth ions in the Ce and Pr substituted iron garnets based on the quantum theory is presented. The Faraday rotation contributed by the rare earth ions is caused mainly by the intra-ionic electrical dipole transitions between the 4f~n and 4f~(n-1)5d~1 configurations. The crystal field and the superexchange interaction are two crucial factors in determining the Faraday rotation. The theoretical results are in good agreement with those of experiments.
