Of all the 481 poems through the academic life of Ai Qing, more than 240 poems are featured in color words, which presents the reader with a brilliant visual world of the emotional poet.Generally speaking, the color words in Ai Qing＇s poems, totaling more than 100 colors, can be classified into 11 categories, namely white, black, red, green, yellow, blue, grey, teal, gold, brown and purple, in which black symbolizes pain, poverty and melancholy, white hope and weakness, red passion and danger, gold hope and happiness; while yellow, grey and brown represent melancholy, poverty and degeneracy; green, blue and teal stand for sadness in brightness.Purple, quiet amazingly, distinguishes Ai Qing with other poets in its unique application.In fact, Ai Qing-styled melancholy is manifested directly in his poems with overall composition of the color, in which almost all colors are supposed to express poet＇s peculiar melancholy.
