张掖国家湿地公园是甘肃省唯一一个湿地公园，也是全国内陆河流域的第一个国家湿地公园.张掖国家湿地公园生态系统结构和功能完善，历史文化底蕴深厚，但市场竞争力和区域条件较差、开展生态旅游既有可能对生态环境造成破坏，又可能对生态环境起到保护和促进作用.对张掖国家湿地公园采取统一开发与分区管理、完善湿地生态旅游立法制度、实施湿地生态恢复工程、建立监测生态环境的长效机制、增强经营管理人员的生态意识、加强对旅游者的宣传教育、鼓励周边居民积极参与等管理方式，从而实现湿地公园的可持续发展.
