中国土螱属一新种

<正> 土螱属(Odontotermes)的一些种类在我国南方危害杉(Cunninghamia lanceolata (Lamb.)Hook.)、樟(Cinnamomum camphora (L.) Presl)、檫(Sassafras tzumu Hemsl.)等六十多种主要用材树种,特别是对树苗以及幼树危害更大,轻则影响幼树生长,形成“小老树”,重则植株枯死。同时,土螱属的种类可在江河堤围和山塘水库的土坝中营巢栖居,所形成的主巢腔、菌圃腔,联接主巢与菌圃、菌圃与菌圃之间的拱形隧道以及群体到背水坡、迎水坡活动所构筑的隧道均构成巨大隐患,可引起漏水,造成跌窝,甚至决堤垮坝。有的种类还可破坏房屋建筑木构件。 在我国,北纬35℃以南的江苏、上海、河南、安徽、甘肃、陕西、四川、西藏、云南、贵州、

A NEW SPECIES OF THE GENUS ODONTOTERMES(ISOPTERA:TERMITIDAE) IN CHINA

There are seventeen species of Odontotermes known in China. This paper reports on a new species which is collected from Guangxi autonomous region and named Odontotermes meridionalis Gao, sp. nov. The soldier of this new species resembles that of 0. zunyiensis but differs in 1) the head-width index is larger (head width/length of head to side base of mandibles), and 2) the head is larger. Type locality shanglin county, Guangxi autonomous region. The soldiers (Holotype and paratype) and workers were collected by Yang Lizhong from covered galleries on May 15, 1983. The soldier specimen of holotype is deposited in Shanghai Institute of Entomology, Academia Sinica. The soldier specimens of paralype are deposited separately in Shanghai Institute of Entomology, Academia Sinica, and Nanjing Institute of Termite Control.
