Abstract:Adsorption partition coefficients are commonly used to quantify the distribution of organic pollutants between the aqueous and particulate phase of natural aqneous system.Many authors found a significant increase in partitioning as solids concentration decrease.The solids effect is most pronounced for constituents characterized by large partitioning.The effect of solids concentration is less pronounced and the coefficient approaches a constant value for substances of low partitioning. It can be attributed to a transfer of sorbing,or solute-binding material from the solid phase to the liquid phase during the cou- rse of the partitioning and so on.Some authors put forward ex- perimental and theory model predictions to quantify the relati- onship between partition coefficients and solids concentration.
