Comparative Analysis of the Cultural Connotation of Both Chinese and English Animal Idioms

As an important element in forming idioms,animal words play a distinctive role with rich expressiveness.These words having long vitality are considered as an indispensable part of language.However,because of different geography,traditions,customs and patterns of thinking of various nations,similar or different associative meanings are attached to animals and thus some animal words bear unique cultural features.Comparative analysis is employed to study the cultural connotation of the animal idioms both in Chinese and English in terms of the associative meanings of animal,the similarity and difference of animal images as well as the origin of these idioms.It will help to achieve a thorough understanding,a proper command and a solid grasp of animal cultures in idioms.
