| Abstract: | A multiple time scale method is used to study the evolution of the single soliton solution for the MKdV equation in the presence of small perturbation. Adiabatic evolution equations for the soliton parameters are derived to the first order in the perturbation. The theory proposed is more concise and convenient than the existing inverse scattering theory and the variational principle and can be easily generalized to deal with problems of multi-soliton perturbation. |
