Automatic Assembly Sequence Planning and DFA Research

A feature based modeling system is used to develop the product hierarchical assembly model and an algorithm for automatic assembly sequence planning based on the model is given. With the sequence information implied in the model, the algorithm can simplify the planning procedure as the times of interference checking is reduced. Two design approaches to the assembly are also discussed, one based on the part assembly feature and the other based on assembly sequence evaluation. Four criterion for evaluating assembly sequence are proposed. The first criterion is the times of jigging. Less jigging times means a better plan. The remaining three criteria are the stability of a subassemblage, the similarity of successive assembling operations and the concurrence of assembly operations. The assemblage of a product is evaluated from both the part level and product level.
