A Review of Research on the Representational Structure of the Bilingual Mental Lexicon

Nearly half a century＇s investigation of the representational structure of the bilingual mental lexicon has produced dozens of studies. The present paper provides a detailed analysis of the major experimental methods adopted in these studies, and examines some typical experiments and the different representational models put forward in these studies. Some potential factors which might influence the experimental results are also discussed. It is hoped that the present paper can provide a comparatively comprehensive research background and also directions for further studies on this issue.
