The Principles of Logging Wire Diameter Measurement by the Constant Magnetic Flux Method
Abstract:The principles of logging wire diameter measurement by the constant flux method are described. Two approaches are available. One is by measuring the magnetic reluctance of the gap between the wire and the pole shoe in the radial or longitudinal magnetic circuit along the wire, and the other is by measuring the main magnetic flux of the total magnetic flux through the wire in the longitudinal magnetic circuit. The accuracy of wire diameter measurement is 0.5% by the first method and that of wire cross sectional area measurement is 1% by the second one. Both methods can be used in on line continuous measurement of wire diameter covered with drilling mud or other non magnetic matter.
