Abstract:In this paper, a novel ACS algorithm is presented. The method which is based on the fast-decoupled load flow and compensation approach can simulteneously perfom the contingency selection and security assessment in one circulation for single branch outage, generator outage and a combination of both. In order to avoid the so-called masking phenomenon, three concepts of security region, alarming region and violation region are defined for both bus voltage level and line overflow. With these concepts, the proposed method can eliminate the masking phenomenon in most cases. A critical contingency list is also given, in which the contingencies are ranked according to the order of severity. Finally, the paper discusses the capture ratio, false alarming ratio, the benefit of computation time, and other related factors.
