论清末民初留美生从政的文化因素

清末民初中国政坛上出现了一股留学生从政热潮,一向以理工科见长的留美生也纷纷卷入其中。从文化角度看,这一现象的形成,体现了美国近代资产阶级文化和中国传统文化对留美生的双重影响。一方面,它是经历过美国民主思想洗礼和民主政治浸染的留美生为实现中国政治民主化而作出的选择,另一方面,更为根本的是,“学而优则仕”传统价值观对近代知识分子的根深蒂固的影响。

On Cultural Factors of the American Returned Students in Politics in Late Qing Dynasty and the Early Republic of China

In the Late Qing dynasty and the Early Republic of China, more and more returned students were engaged in politics including the American returned students who were good at natural science and engineering science. This phenomenon was the result of the duplex impact from modern bourgeois culture and the traditional Chinese culture. One side, it was the effort by American Returned Students who were effected deeply by American democracy. On the other side, more fundamentally, it was the result of Chinese traditional ideas: "a good scholar can become an official.
