Abstract:Mapping landslide susceptibility is one of the effective measures for disaster prevention. The purpose of this paper is to draw a landslide susceptibility map for the Three Gorges Reservoir Area in northeast Chongqing by using the frequency ratio (FRM) and projection pursuit model (PPM). First, the landslide susceptibility evaluation indicators were constructed according to the geological environment characteristics of the study area, then the spatial relationship between historical landslides and the indicators was analyzed by the FRM method. Second, the optimal vectors of the indicators, which were determined as weight by the PPM, and the weighted sum of the analysis results from FRM and optimal vectors were used to obtain the landslide susceptibility index, then as a result the study area was divided into five zones, i.e., very high, high, medium, low, and very low susceptibility zone. Finally, the results of landslide susceptibility mapping were validated by the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve. The results show that the FRM-PPM has good performance in landslide susceptibility mapping, and the areas under the curve (AUC) of the sample and verification data are 0.844 and 0.763, respectively. The study area is mainly at the level of the low and medium susceptibility zones, and the area of the high and very high susceptibility zones in the study area is about 22%, which mainly distribute in human engineering activities concentrated areas of Zhongxian, Wanzhou, Wushan and other districts and counties. The results of this paper could provide reference for disaster prevention and control in the region and help to improve the ability of geological hazards prevention and mitigation in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area.
