Abstract:The contact force network characteristics of granular materials such as soil can be quantified by fabric tensor. On the other hand, the macroscopic stress tensor can be determined by the magnitude of the inter-particle contact force and the distance between the centroids of two particles in contact. According to the existing theoretical research results, based on the Hertz contact theory, the particle flow discrete element program PFC3D is used to simulate the uniaxial compression test of granular soil for auxiliary analysis and verification. Based on this, a semi-empirical formula for predicting the anisotropy of contact force fabric from the macroscopic stress tensor is derived. The research results provide a new way to establish the connection between macro-mechanics and granular-level micro-mechanics.
