于连:一个意大利性格

司汤达塑造的“意大利性格”是对世界文坛的一大贡献。于连，虽非意大利血统，本质上具有“意大利性格”。但于连的“意大利性格”在法国复辟时期的社会现实中受到了冲击，表现得较为复杂。一方面，于连身上具有意大利民族所具有的激情、自尊、执著、勇敢及真诚；另一方面，又有社会现实与时代风尚强加给他的野心、虚荣、虚伪。前者是于连性格的本质，后者是社会对他的异化，二者你弱我强、此起彼伏的斗争演绎了于连曲折矛盾的人生历程。

Hulin:an Italian character

The Italian character created by Stendhal is a great contribution to the literary world. Hulin, having no Italian origin, had the Italian character in nature. But his Italian character, impacted in the social reality during the French Restoration Period, was complex. On the one hand, Hulin had the quality of passion, self- respect, persistence, braveness and sincerity, which the Italian nation has; on the other hand, he had ambition, vanity and dishonesty imposed by the social reality and trend of times.
