Abstract:A study on the effects of salt,ionic surfactants (before their CMC) and temperature on the fluorescence behavior of 1,3-di (l-naphthyl)propane (1)in aqueous methanol binary solvent (V:V=1:1)has been performed. The higher polarity of the medium caused by the added salt(NaCl) is in favour of the formation of excimer. The viscosity and polarity of the medium can be increased by theadded SDS while CTAB acts only as a salt due to its alkyl chain coiling. The vibronic structures of excimer induced by the bases can be broken down with the increase of temperature. Higher temperature is favourable to the excimer. The temperature effect also provides a further evidence to the distinct interaction between land cyclodextrins.
