日本佛教本土化进程探略

日本佛教与中国佛教有着一脉相承的关系,日本佛教是在吸收中国佛教的基础上,不断发展的。在日本佛教的本土化进程中,"外来"的佛教不断地吸收日本的传统文化,当与本土的文化精神发生冲突时,也大多呈现出"外来"的佛教向本土的传统文化妥协的倾向。日本对于佛教的接受与发扬,或者说日本佛教的本土化进程,就是一个使外来文化不断向本民族文化妥协,最终融化为自己民族文化的一部分的过程,这在其他民族的佛教发展史上都是罕见的。

The Localization Process of Buddhism in Japan

Japanese Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism can be traced to the same origin. Japanese Buddhism is gradually developed on the basis of Chinese Buddhism. In this process, the ＂foreign＂ Buddhists continue to absorb Japan＇s traditional culture and tend to compromise the local traditional culture when there appears a conflict between ＂foreign＂ Buddhism and the traditional culture. The formation of Japanese Buddhism is a process in which ＂foreign＂ culture compromises with the national culture and ultimately becomes a part of the national culture, which is rare in the history of the development of Buddhism.
