Selection of Backbone Connections between Campuses

It is very common that a Chinese university has several campuses today, so network is becoming one of the key infrastructures of the digitalized and informationized campuses. In order to build a network backbone which has high speed, stability, low cost and high scalability, this paper analyses the functions of the backbone. Based on the comparative study of the current popular backbone network technologies, the paper provides the best scheme of network backbone connections between campuses. Advantages of using Gigabit Ethernet as network backbone are also introduced.
