Abstract:During the selective examination of slash pine and loblloly pine seeds imported from U. S. A. in 1985, the pathogen of brown spot needle blight of pine was not discovered both inside seeds and in any needle parts among the seeds. The conidia of Lccanosticta acicola are at most of the life-span 30-34 days on the seed surfaces of slash pine and loblolly pine. The pathogen in the needle parts sowed in the soil together with two kinds of pine seeds could not cause the seedlings infection, though the artificial spray inoculation of the conidia could make one-month slash pine seedlings infected. The brown spot fungus in the needles can only survive at most 36 days. So it may be considered that the pine seeds and diseased nccdle parts among them are not able to transmit the brown spot needle blight of pihe.
