| Abstract: | Using Co(PPh_n)_mCl_n as catalyst,the carbonylation of benzyl halide with CO(1 atm)ih a binary system(aq.NaOH/C_5H_6)in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide as phase transfer eata- lyst for 10h gives the phenylacetic acid in good to excellent yields. The effects of phase transfer catalysts and reaction tem perature on the reactions have been in vestigated.The reaction mechanism is briefly discussed. |
