Hong Kong's Early Urbanization in the Eyes of Travelers Going Abroad in the Late Qing Dynasty

Urbanization is an important component element of Hong Kong＇ modernization. In the late Qing Dynasty, the travelers visited the west countries; they passed by or stop at Hong Kong. They witnessed Hong Kong＇s transformation from a tiny island to a free-trade port, and the speedy progress of that. They wimessed its city construction, such as museum, prisons, gardens and so on, and the modern factors of them. They observed its special tax system and advanced management level. In addition, they paid close attention to some social problems in the early stage of urbanization. Their views were widened. The window function of Hong Kong was delicately embodied.
