With the aid of a gauge transformation, we first reduce the modified nonlinear Schr dinger equation with third order dispersion term to a second order nonlinear ordinary differential equation, and then obtain some kinds of exact solutions to the ordinary differential equation which has been reduced by using some of different ansatzes so to get some exact solutions of the modified nonlinear Schr dinger equation with third order dispersion term. These solutions include exact plane wave solutions, solitary wave solutions of the bell-type, solitary wave solutions of the kink-type, singular wave solutions, the periodic wave solutions of trigonometric functions and the algebraic solitary wave solutions of rational function type.
