| Abstract: | Language is not simply used to express static ideas.In some occasions mental efforts must be made in order to comprehend the intended meaning of speakers.To appreciate humor in language needs mental efforts.Pragmatics,which studies the dynamic relations between linguistic symbols and their intended meanings,helps enjoy humor in language.Reference,cooperative principles,implication and speech act theory are applied here in the investigation of humor in language. |
