Abstract:The previous process of synthesizing ursodeoxycholic acid is very complex and the yield is very low.First,cholic acid is extracted from bile of cattle and sheep and converted to chenodeoxycholic acid through several complex reactions.Second,the carboxylic group is protected by methyl esterazation and then the protected chenodeoxycholic acid is converted to methyl ursodeoxycholate by hydrogenization with benkeser reaction.Last,ursodeoxycholic acid is obtained by demethyl ester treatment.The new synthetic process is that chenodeoxycholic acid is directly extracted and separated from bile of chicken and is reduced to ursodeoxycholic acid by hydrogenizing with a high stereospecific catalyst.The synthetic process is not only greatly simplified and cost is reduced,but the comprehensive conversion rate is increased from previous 50 percent to now over 65 percent.
