Deepening the Reform of University Framework: A Problem Deserving Careful Consid eration

The paper analyzes in depth the defects in the institutional framework of universities. They are a major impediment to the development of science and technology, the division of labor, the synthesization of scientific researches, the training of talents, and the improvement of adaptive ability and efficiency of colleges and universities in China. The author then presents some models of s tructural improvements of American universities. The writer believes the reform of the university framework is a breakthrough in the reform of China's higher ed ucation. In order to strengthen the adaptive and scientific research ability of Chinese colleges and universities, and advance the development of interdisciplin ary subjects, this reform should be deepened.
