Gaming Analysis of Multi-Firm Alliances

According to the different relationships between cooperative payoffs and non-cooperative payoffs, four kinds of multi-firm alliances are discussed that have different payoff structures with game theory. The key characteristics and stable solutions for each game scenario are summarized. The suggestions on how to play each game are also provided. Firms should avoid participating in the first game, build barriers for defection in the second game, attain critical cooperative mass as soon as possible in the third game, and adopt a first-in/first-out strategy in the fourth game.
