From the development history of reference librarian,subject librarian and competitive intelligence personnel,this paper compares the similarities and differences among reference librarian,subject librarian and competitive intelligence personnel in aspects of the service concept,service object,service content,service mode,service requirement,and the quality of personnel,etc.,and points out that establishing and perfecting various types of librarian system is the necessary demand of knowledge innovation in the knowledge economy age and also the demand on library's service innovation and improvement of information service quality.
