中国传统廉政文化历史悠久、内容丰富。其主要有:莅官之要,曰廉曰勤;公则生明,廉则生威;廉耻事大,死生事小;修身自律,清廉洁白;赏廉罚贪,不可偏废等。这些精粹思想,对于夯实当代廉政文化基础具有重要意义:廉政爱民的为政之德是构建当代廉政文化的政治根基;崇廉知耻的道德操守是构建当代廉政文化的思想根基;修身律己的守廉之道是构建当代廉政文化的心理根基;尚廉肃贪的廉政制度是构建当代廉政文化的制度根基。
