摘    要:
大型强子对撞机(Large Hadron Collider,LHC)是在欧洲核子中心(CERN)建造的当今最大的高能物理科学实验装置。科学家期待用它来模拟和重现宇宙大爆炸后一万亿分之一秒时的能量和条件,通过仔细分析撞击产生的残骸,以验证粒子物理学的标准模型,并研究探索反物质和暗物质。LHC装置和实验受到国际科学界和社会公众的广泛关注,预期将推动物理学进入崭新阶段。

Abstract:
The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles that are the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionise our understanding from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe. After a spectacular start on 10 September, the LHC enjoyed a mixed first week of commissioning with beam. Chinese scientists actively participated in and made important contributions in this field.
