On the Pragmatic Functions of English Hedges

English Hedges have been used a lot in communication. A qualified English language user should be able to use hedges appropriately. This paper first gives a brief introduction to hedges and their classification, and then makes a preliminary study of the rich pragmatic functions of hedges, which reinforces the fact that English hedges are used as a very efficient discourse strategy in our daily communication.
