| Abstract: | In the FEM solution of arch dams, the value of stresses changes with the variation of dimensions of elements markedly. In order to overcome the unstable character of the stresses due to the numerical method , a technique of combination of equivalent stress and thin-layer element is proposed. The practical application to a high arch dan shows that the suggested technique provids an effective way for the use of FEM in the design of arch dams. |
