先秦时期,各具特色的区域文化已大致成型,在北方形成了以中原文化为代表的区域文化,在南方则形成以楚文化为代表的区域文化。作为一种多元性的地域文化,先秦荆楚文化在楚人不断南移、东移和长期的社会生活实践过程中,承袭、吸收了中原文化因素和南方诸土著文化因素,并在此基础上融合、创新、积淀,形成了自身鲜明的特质和文化精神,主要体现为开拓进取、自强创新、兼容并包、坚韧执着、剽悍尚武、恋乡敬祖、爱国忠君、浪漫情怀、机智灵巧、价值多元、崇尚乐舞、奢靡享乐、崇火尊凤、尊巫尚鬼等。
