The oldest known fossil Hydrometridae from the Lower Cretaceous of Brazil (Heteroptera: Gerromorpha)

The oldest fossil hydrometrid bug, Cretaceometra brasiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov., is described from the deposits of the Lower Cretaceous from Araripe Basin (Brazil), estimated at 110 million years old, and belongs to the stem-group of the recent Hydrometrinae. This extinct form demonstrates the great antiquity of the Hydrometridae.
