英国19世纪著名现实主义小说家查尔斯.狄更斯,作为时代道德的扫描仪和良知的打印机,通过持续不断地关注底层和良知的方式为世人构建了一个时代最美好的精神世界,相反相成了那个伟大的物质世界,赢得了他个人在人类历史上的地位,同时也为英国赢得了世界的尊重。本文在对狄更斯的缅怀和对《双城记》的再读以及对小说中重点情节再现的基础上,从狄更斯以及《双城记》看中国社会文化发展。分析了人类文化强大的载体在于＂以人为本＂;打造文化强国的基础在于＂正视问题＂;最终提出了＂最好的时代＂期待＂狄更斯式＂的伟大作家的重要命题。

Reflection on Chinese Social and Cultural Development from Dickens and His Classic A Tale of Two Cities

Charles Dickens, the 19th famous British realistic novelist, was regarded as moral scanner and con- science printers of the times. He constructed the best spiritual world for the people of that time through continuous concern for the bottom and conscience by a stereo - mode, which won his personal position in human history and the world~ respect for England as well. Based on the recalling of Charles Dickens, reread of the novel, and reap- pearance of some classical plots in the work, the author points out that the great carrier of human culture lies in the spirit of people - oriented, the basis of building a cultural power is to face the problems. Finally a proposal that the best of times is to look forward to great writers like Dickens is put forward in the paper.
